Lean lab
Simulate the lean and the tire contact.
A quick visual model for the part every darkside argument comes back to: how a loaded touring bike moves from center tread toward the shoulder.
Illustrative only. Real safety still comes from exact tire reports, load rating, pressure, bead seating, and loaded clearance.
Darkside economics
What does 50,000 miles really cost you?
Motorcycle rear tire vs darkside car tire. Drag the sliders to match your riding.
Cumulative spend over 5 years (with inflation)
See the tire, then read the report.
Photos and source threads make darkside research less abstract: tire shape, clearance, sidewall posture, and tread profile all matter before the first test ride.
Darkside terms
Run-flat
A tire built to support temporary low-pressure operation after some punctures. It can add sidewall stiffness, but it does not remove the need for pressure checks or repair.
Load index
The tire's rated carrying capacity. Darkside riders compare this against bike, rider, passenger, cargo, and trailer load instead of looking at size alone. Higher load index can give a heavier touring setup more capacity margin, but only when the tire also clears, seats correctly, and is run at a pressure that matches the bike.
Bead seating
The tire bead locking evenly against the wheel. This is one of the most important mount-and-inspect steps because car and motorcycle tire/wheel geometry are not identical.
Rub
Contact between the tire and fender, swingarm, wiring, or other hardware. Check it with the suspension loaded, not just while the bike is sitting still.
Taxi tire
A narrow, tall car tire style that became a classic GL1500 reference point, especially in 175R16 discussions. Availability and exact casing can vary now.
Double darkside
Running a car tire on the rear and a rear motorcycle tire on the front. It is a separate setup path and needs its own source research.
